Tra i vari premi cinematografici che esistono, il David di Donatello rappresenta probabilmente il massimo riconoscimento che ogni anno – sin dalla sua fondazione nel 1956 – viene assegnato al mondo del cinema italiano e, tra le varie statuette, quella per il miglior film internazionale (ex film straniero) è certamente una delle più interessanti da seguire oltre che storiche, visto che fu assegnata per la prima volta nel 1959, eccezion fatta per pochissime edizioni.
