Le candidature ai Film Independent Spirit Awards sono state ufficialmente annunciate direttamente da parte dell’organizzazione no profit; il 2022 è stato rappresentato da una grande quantità di prodotti indipendenti che – presentati ai Festival in anteprima, nella maggior parte dei casi – hanno ottenuto un grande successo al botteghino. Le candidature sono guidate dal boom di Everything Everywere All At Once, dei Daniels, che ha ottenuto un ottimo responso critico, oltre che un grande successo dal punto di vista mediatico.
